Education and Training
Education and training activities for people of all ages are important to the chapter.
Salmon in the Classrom
The chapter partners with school classrooms across the Tri-Cities Area to raise chinook salmon.
Salmon in the Classroom is a Michigan DNR effort backed by local sponsors. The program gives sudents an in-depth experience to nurture and tend to salmon. Students will watch the eggs hatch and fly grow while ensuring the water temperature, quality, and food all remain in balance to help the fish thrive. In the spring, students will release the fish into a local river with the goal of the fish reaching Lake Huron.
While raising the fish, the program officials educate the students about the history and biology of salmon, the importance salmon are to the Great Lakes, and the current issues the salmon face.
The LPM Chapter proudly sponsors Salmon in the Classroom in the following schools:
Ithica High
Hemlock Middle School
Midland High School
Floyd Elementary
